I am flying back from Sydney via Changi airport in Singapore. My Singapore Airways flight lands at 21.40 and leaves the next morning for London at 09.05. Is there any way of booking overnight accommodation? We are aged 60 and 50 and don't fancy nodding off in an airport seat. Robert Hodgon, by email
Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green responds: You're in luck, as Singapore's Changi airport is one of the world's best. It's famed for the variety of shops and eateries, and even has a swimming pool and rooftop cactus garden. But most importantly for you, it also has three airside hotels.
The Ambassador Hotels (00 65 6507 9797) have spotless doubles for £30 per six-hour block, and then £6.50 per hour after that. Some rooms don't have windows, but they all have TV and tea and coffee making facilities, and can give you a wake up call.
Be sure that you carry your overnight things in your cabin baggage and have your luggage checked through, as you don't clear customs and immigration here. The hotels, one in each of the three main terminals, are located inside the transit area.
Breakfast isn't included, but then there are over 100 eating outlets just nearby inside the terminal.
Alternatively, if you really do need a little more luxury, there is the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, which has a pool and good facilities, and doubles from £117. This is landside, so you do have to clear immigration and customs in the normal way.
For an overnight transfer like yours though, I'd say you are better off staying at one of the Ambassadors.

The answer above fails to mention the superb Transit hotels at Changi have perfectly acceptable budget rooms at $ (Singapore) 51.50 per 6 hour block - that is £19 Sterling and you can double up to get 12 hours. With an onward boarding pass you can exit and nip into Singapore with no problems.
