First impressions: lovely Art Deco-style mural of a stylish 1930s’ couple painted on the second floor exterior wall grabs your attention. Paskins, just off Brighton’s Marine Parade, comprises two late Regency townhouses converted into a 19-room B&B hotel.

Why it’s special: Paskins is run according to eco-friendly principles, and serves excellent vegetarian food.

Hitting the sack: the rooms are individually designed in three styles: Regency, pop culture kitsch, and Art Deco chic. The beds, some of them four poster, have two mattresses, a regular one and a feather mattress on top.

Sampling the fare: full vegetarian breakfast with home-made sausages and nut fritters. Duck eggs, porridge, and “Pavilion rarebit” are also available. All ingredients are organic, GM free, and from local farms. Vegan options too.

Added attractions: the seafront and pebbly beach are at the end of the road. Brighton’s famous pier, Royal Pavilion, and the city’s shopping streets are a ten-minute walk away.

Bottom line: B&B doubles from £70.
