I find some of the comments here quite bizarre. I am familiar with so called "mosque schools". Those who attend them are (almost exclusively) born in the UK, all speak English and almost all have English as a first language.

If it is optional than surely children already attending mosques with extremist leaders will not be taught this information. So effectively, this is a matter of "teaching the coverted" and will still not reach those most likely to be affected by extemist teachings.

Why on earth should WE have to pay for immigrants to learn "how" to be British? That is a classic negative externality of immigration, the cost of which should be shouldered by the incoming community, not the wider community. If that's impossible to accomplish then they should not be allowed in.

Lets stop issuing council and governement literature in languages other than English (or Gaelic). English should be the primary language in all schools. People who don't speak English should be helped to learn it, not catered for in other languages. A shared language would help bring us together.
